Christians No Longer Get to Claim the Moral High Ground

Allies-1600x900.jpgI know a lot of evangelicals who voted for Trump even though they despised him. Why? So he would protect Christian values. So essentially they voted for a man who has been twice divorced, had affairs during all three of his marriages, dragged his first wife through the tabloids, was set to go on trial for the rape of a teenager, bragged about grabbing women by the “pussy”, etc, to protect their moral values.

And honestly, when you elect someone like Trump and then turn around and start to dismantle the progress that the LGBT people have made toward equality in the name of morality, your hypocrisy is showing.

Let’s make one thing clear. If you’re a Christian who voted for Trump, you have no right to preach about morality or the sanctity of marriage and use that to take away the rights of gays and lesbians to get married.

When you elect someone accused by multiple women of sexual assault and who bragged about committing sexual assault, you lose your credibility when you go and accuse innocent LGBT people of being sexual predators.

When you elect someone who has been accused of tying a 13 year old girl to a bed and raping her, you lose your credibility when you go and accuse innocent LGBT people of being pedophiles.

When you elect someone who has dragged their wife through the tabloids with sex scandals, you lose your credibility when you accuse innocent LGBT people of being deviants.

Essentially, you’re saying it’s okay for straight white men to be perverted thrice married rapists, but it’s not okay for you to get married because it’s against my morality.

So no. You no longer get to claim gay marriage as a moral issue. You have no right to talk about morality anymore. You have no leg to stand on when you argue bakers can turn away gay couples who want a wedding cake because it goes against your beliefs when you voted for someone like Trump.

Because this isn’t about morality. This is about control. This is about you getting to control who does and does not get married. This is about you getting to control who has consensual sex with who. This is about you wanting to impose your belief system on people who do not share it.

And people who support people who are LGBT are not going to let you forget it.
